We noticed that almost every one was named “La Michoacana,” meaning someone or something from the state of Michoacán in western Mexico, which stretches from the Pacific to central Mexico.

At La Michoacana we produce high-quality and innovative paletas, Coolstix (traditionally known as bolis), and vasitos (cups), spreading felicidad throughout thousands of retail stores in the United States.

The name refers to how ice cream is made just as they do in Michoacan, Mexico, according to Mayra. It is a family business in which they work along with their children and share their creative and unique foods and treats with their customers.

In 1991, brothers Ruben Gutierrez and Ignacio Gutierrez opened a paleta factory and began selling paletas from a pushcart in Turlock, California, in the state's Central Valley. They called the operation Paleteria La Michoacana.
